Dog Attacks Family Baby Girl
BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Within the last six months there have been three dog attacks in Maine.
Most recently, a seven-month old baby girl from Frankfort lost her life after the family pet rottweiler allegedly attacked the infant two days ago.
Two other attacks happened in Lagrange in November and December of last year. In one case, a woman lost her arm because of her injuries. So, what can you do to keep you and your family safe while enjoying time with your four-legged friends?
According to certified dog behavior consultant Don Hanson, after bringing a dog home to be a part of your family, training and obedience classes can help you and your furry friend adjust to a new situation.
But before you even decide to get a dog, you need to do your research. Hanson said no breed is more aggressive than another, but you need to make sure to pick a breed that matches your lifestyle.
"People need to look at what kind of breed they're getting and figure out how it's going to match their lifestyle," said Hanson. "If they have children or are thinking about it, they need to give a lot of consideration to that because when dogs and kids are together, they need to be supervised always."
